I once had the opportunity to consult with a craftsman from another production area who told me, ‘There are good circular whetstone that do not require such things (advance preparation).

At that time, I decided, ‘We will definitely adopt that when we do our own sharpening process in the future,’ and that is what we have achieved this time (【No.141】).

以前、他産地の職人さんに相談したところ、『そんなこと（事前準備）をする必要のない良い円砥がある』と教えて頂く機会がありました。

その時『将来、自分達で研ぐときには絶対にそれを採用しよう』と決めており、今回それが実現したということになります（【No.141】）。

 

This type of circular whetstone seems to be more expensive than the mainstream ones in Sakai, which seems to be a major reason why they are not widely used.

We believe that even if the price is more expensive, this circular whetstone will be cheaper overall because it reduces invisible costs (heavy labor to scratch surfaces and risk of danger), and we will continue to create such an environment that is friendly to workers.

I am sure that there are many more ways to deal with the 3Ds that are taken for granted in the artisan industry, in addition to the ones I have just suggested.

We will continue our efforts, believing that such steady improvements will motivate our workers, further improve quality, and lead to the creation of products that will please our customers.

このタイプの円砥は堺で主流のものよりも割高のようですが、それがなかなか普及しない大きな理由のようです。

価格的には割高であっても、目に見えないコスト（表面にキズを付ける重労働や、危険をはらむリスク）が抑えられるこの円砥の方が総合的には割安になると信じ、働く人に優しいこのような環境を今後も整えていきたいと思います。

『（職人の業界で当たり前とされている）３Ｋに対する対処法』は、今回思いついたような内容の他にもまだまだたくさん見つかるはずです。

このような改善を地道に続けることが、働く人の意欲を引き上げ、さらには品質が向上し、皆さんに喜んで頂ける商品づくりにつながると信じ、今後も努力していきます。
