【No.146】Growth goals for the company, myself, and staff (2)

I am thinking again about “what is the purpose of our work in the future?

When I was sorting through company documents some time ago, I found a copy of my grandfather’s 1969 “company motto” (a verbalization of the direction and ideas that the company aims to achieve).

 

 

【No.146】会社・自分・スタッフ それぞれの成長目標 (2)

『僕達は今後、何のために仕事をするのか』について、改めて考えています。

以前、社内の資料を整理していた時に、祖父が1969年に掲げた『社是』（企業が目指す方向や 考えを言葉にしたもの）を見つけました。

 

 

It says, “We pledge to contribute to the improvement and development of society and cultural life by continuing to research Sakai knives that cut well and selling superior products.

We have just started manufacturing (sharpening) our own knives and are in the process of trial and error, so the term “continuing to research” fits perfectly.

Contributing to the improvement and development of social and cultural life” also fits nicely.

My grandfather may have been thinking of Japan at the time, but the words remain the same: we want to make products that will be loved by everyone in the world.

そこには『我々はよく切れる　堺刃物の研究を重ね　優良品の販売を以って　社会文化生活の向上発展　に寄与することを誓う』とあります。

ちょうど、自社での包丁製造（研ぎ）を始めて試行錯誤しているところなので「研究を重ね」という言葉はピッタリです。

「社会文化生活の向上発展に寄与」もしっくりきます。

当時の祖父は日本のことを考えていたかも知れませんが、言葉はそのまま、僕達は世界中の皆さんに愛されるようなモノづくりをしたいと思っています。
