Changes in blacksmiths in each region (1)

I recently visited several local blacksmith shops far from Sakai.
There were several visits that I had not seen in about a year, but this time I felt a completely different atmosphere than I have seen in the past few years.

各地の職人さんの変化 (1)

先日、堺から離れた地方の鍛冶屋さん数件を訪問しました。
一年ぶりくらいにお伺いした訪問先もいくつかあったのですが、今回の訪問ではここ数年お会いした時とは全く違う雰囲気を感じました。

That is, everyone talked about what they wanted to do in the future, what they wanted to achieve, and so on.

It seemed to me that all the craftsmen used to say, ‘It’s hard to handle a large volume of orders.
In most cases, we were not even in the mood to talk about the progress of an order we had already made, let alone discuss the expected delivery date or a new knife we wanted to make.

This time, however, such comments disappeared, and it seemed to me that “everyone started talking about their dreams for the future all at once.

それは、今後やりたいことや実現したいことなど、皆さんが未来のことを語っておられたことです。

以前はどの職人さんも『大量の注文をこなすのが大変だ』ということをおっしゃっていたように感じました。
すでに依頼している注文についての進捗状況はおろか、見込み納期や新しく作りたい包丁の相談などは、お話しできそうな空気にもならないことがほとんどでした。

しかし今回はそのような雰囲気はなくなり、僕の目にはまさに『皆さんが一斉に将来の夢を語り始めた』ようにも写りました。
