Making molds for leather sheath

In a previous post, we reported that we were considering the use of a die-cut and press to improve the efficiency of “cutting out saya shapes from large leather fabrics”.
However, as a result of subsequent discussions, it was decided that it would be necessary to outsource the production of die-cutters to a specialist, and considering the time lag and other factors, it was decided that at this point, “it would be better to make the same shape as the paper pattern in-house by processing a metal plate.

革サヤの金型作り

以前の投稿では、『大きな革の生地からサヤの形状を切り出す作業』の効率化を図るため、抜き型とプレスの使用を検討しているとお伝えしました。
しかしその後の検討の結果、抜き型を製作するにも専門の方に外注する必要があり、タイムラグなども考えると、現時点では『型紙と同じ形状のものを、社内で金属板を加工して作る方がいいのではないかということになりました。

Buy a 2.3 mm thick steel plate at a home improvement center and cut it into the shape of a saya.
At 2.3 mm, it is not a very thick size in terms of a knife, but it took me quite a long time to cut it, partly because I was not used to working with it.
This was the end of the day’s work, as it was also dangerous and required a lot of concentration.

ホームセンターで2.3ミリ厚の鋼板を購入し、サヤの形に切り出していきます。
2.3ミリというと、包丁で言うとそれほど分厚いサイズではありませんが、作業に慣れてないこともあり、切断するのにかなりの時間を要してしまいました。
集中力を必要とする危険な作業でもあったので、この日はここまでの作業で終わりました。
