It has been almost two years since we started challenging the sharpening process with our in-house members.

At the time, I received a dimensional drawing for reference from a craftsman with whom we have a business relationship, and was wondering how the pedestal should be assembled.

The craftsman made the equipment, which was completely custom-made, in the style of two stainless steel storage tables connected together, like those used in a kitchen, with each component welded together to achieve the required dimensions.

At that time, we were complete amateurs in terms of knowledge as well as work in the area of the sharpening process, and we did not know of any company that could be commissioned to manufacture such equipment, much less have the facilities to weld.

Looking at the dimensional drawings we received, I spent several months wondering how we should fabricate this equipment.

当時、取引がある職人さんから参考にするための寸法図を頂き、どのように台座を組むべきか悩んでいました。

その職人さんが採用したものは、厨房で使われるようなステンレス製の物置台を２つ繋げたようなスタイルで、必要な寸法を実現するために各部材を溶接して組み上げた、完全オーダーメイドで製作した設備でした。

当時の僕達は、研ぎ工程の領域に関しては作業面だけでなく知識に関しても全くの素人で、そのような設備の製作を依頼できる会社も知らず、ましてや溶接ができるような設備も持っている訳ではありませんでした。

頂いた寸法図を眺めながら、どのようにこの設備を製作すべきか、数ヶ月間悩み続けました。
