Until then, this femail staff has mainly been engaged in tasks such as “quality inspection of knives before boxing” and “planning of shipping,” but a few years ago, I suggested that she takes on the challenge of “Kiri-mei” (engraving).

若手スタッフによる切銘 (2)

それまでは『箱詰め前の包丁の品質検査』や『出荷計画の立案』等の仕事をメインにやってくれていた女性スタッフですが、数年前から『切銘にチャレンジすること』を僕の方から提案してみました。

She had never thought such a proposal was possible until then, and at first she did not immediately accept it.
So, I suggested that she starts with ‘trying to put letters on a metal plate that is not a knife.

As the practice progressed, it gradually took shape, so I suggested that the next step was to do Kiri-mei to a cheaper priced knife.

When she was still anxious, my father suggested, ‘Try one letter at a time first, and if you feel like you are going to fail, I will take turns with the rest of the letters.

I too was allowed to practice with this method at the time and found it to be a very safe method.

She seemed to be able to continue her practice with ease by that method, and her recent words and actions have gradually increased her confidence.
Therefore, I finally proposed the Kiri-mei of “Konosuke”.

本人はそれまで、まさかそんな提案があるとは思ってもみなかったようで、当初はすぐには受け入れられなかった様子でした。
そこで、まずは『包丁ではない金属板に文字を入れてみること』から提案しました。

練習を進めるに従って少しずつ形になってきたので、次は安い価格帯の包丁への切銘を提案しました。
それでも本人は不安がっていたところ、父親が『まずは一文字ずつやってみて、失敗しそうになれば残りの文字は交代してあげる』という提案をくれました。
僕も当時はこの方式で練習させてもらい、とても安心感のある方法だと感じていました。

彼女もその方式によって安心して練習を続けることができたようで、最近の言動からは少しずつ自信を感じることも増えてきました。
そこで、ついに『幸之祐』の切銘を提案しました。
