Fever from sharpening debris

When we were about to start our own sharpening process, we were grateful for the advice we received from the craftspeople with whom we do business, and based on that information, we have been researching sharpening in our own way, using the equipment and tools we have prepared.

研ぎカスからの発熱

自社で研ぎの工程を始めようとした時、ありがたいことに取引をしている職人さん方から色々とアドバイスを頂き、その情報を元に準備した設備や道具を使い、自分達なりの研ぎの研究を進めています。

Once the work begins, of course, there will be sharpening debris every day, a mixture of metal dust from sharpening knives and sharpened whetstones.
We clean them almost every day, but this time I smelled a different and stronger odor from the garbage bags that collected them.

When I checked the contents of the bag, it had risen to such a temperature that it felt too hot to touch, and steam was coming out.
Perhaps, like the portable warmer, the heat was generated when the iron powder was exposed to air.

We don’t know the exact cause of this because it has never happened to us before when we have been collecting debris in the same way, but whenever we work on something new, we are always faced with a problem that we didn’t know existed before.

For experienced craftspeople, this may be a simple problem, but we will solve these problems one by one as we gradually move forward to realize what we want to do.

作業を始めると、当然のことながら毎日のように包丁を削った金属の粉と、削られた砥石の交じった研ぎカスが出ます。
毎日のようにそれを掃除しているのですが、今回それらを集めたごみ袋から、いつもとは違う強いにおいを感じました。

袋の中身を確認すると、熱くて触れなく感じるほどの温度に上がり、湯気が出ていました。
おそらく携帯用カイロと同じように、鉄粉が空気に触れて熱が発生してしまったのだと思います。

これまで同じようにカスを集めていても一度も起きたことがなかったので詳しい原因は分からないのですが、新しいことに取り組むときは必ず、今まで知らなかった問題に直面することが多くなります。

ベテランの職人さんからすれば簡単な問題かもしれませんが、このようなことも一つずつ解決しながら、自分達のやりたいことを実現すべく、少しずつ前へ進んで行きます。
