Leather sheath production

We are now shipping leather sheaths little by little, and there is a staff member who has been playing a central role in the design and manufacturing of this products.
I was told that when the staff member told a family member about the work, that person was very envious.

革サヤ作り

現在、少しずつ出荷している革サヤ (改良版) ですが、そのデザインや製造を中心になって進めてくれているスタッフがいます。
そのスタッフが、自分自身の仕事のことをご家族に話すと、とても羨ましがってくれたとの話を聞きました。

The person also seems to be very fond of making things, and has been handcrafting shelves and other items in the house for some time.

I thought we should definitely ask for help, so for several years we started asking for work that can be done at home in the form of outsourcing.

As for leather sheath, we are gradually receiving orders from European dealers and others.
So we decided to ask that person about this production as well.

The person seems to be enjoying the work more than the handle installation work which had previously been asked to do, and is finishing more and more of what we had requested.

From this experience, I feel that I was able to reaffirm the importance of building a team within the company: “How important it is to find and ask people to do work they are good at,” rather than “asking them to make an effort to become good at work they are not good at.

その方もとてもモノづくりが好きなようで、以前から自宅にある棚なども手作りされているとのことでした。
それならぜひお願いすべきだと思い、数年前から外部委託という形で自宅でできる仕事をお願いしていました。

革サヤについては、ヨーロッパの販売店さん等から少しずつ、まとまったご注文を頂くようになりました。
そこで、この製造についてもその方に頼んでみることにしました。
すると、以前お願いしていた柄挿げの仕事よりも楽しんで頂いているような雰囲気で、依頼したものをどんどん仕上げてくれています。

今回のことから、『不得意な仕事を得意になるように努力してもらう』のではなく、『いかに得意な仕事を見つけて依頼することが大事か』という、社内のチーム作りにもつながる大事なことを改めて認識できたような気がします。
