仕事と遊びの境界線

海外で使えるsimカードがネット通販で安く手に入ることを知り、先月の海外出張で初めて使用しました。 各国にいながらスマホが普通に使えたため、社内のスタッフともいつも通りのやりとりができました。

前述の通り各国の販売店さんを訪問した後は、以前より行きたかった近くの国々に立ち寄り、社内の夏休み制度に合わせて何日かを過ごしたのですが、そこでも旅の前半と同じく社内のスタッフと引き続きやり取りを続けていました。

そんな中、スタッフの一人である妹からのＬＩＮＥで気づいたことがありました。

『夏休み中にも関わらず、常に仕事のこと考えてくれてありがとう』という内容だったのですが、自分としては特に 「休み中でリラックスした頭を、わざわざ仕事モードに切り替えている」訳ではなかったのです。

「何年も前から行きたかった場所でリラックスしている最中に、仕事のことを考えても何もストレスを感じない」。

このことから分かったのは「普段の仕事が、憧れの場所に旅行することと同じくらい自分のやりたいことである」ということです。 この時の頭の中では「仕事は大変で、旅行は楽しい」という区別はありません。どちらもやりたいことなのです。

一般企業に勤めていた若い頃は、理不尽に感じることも多く、週明けに仕事モードの頭に切り替えることがものすごく 大変でしたが、今ではそんな感覚も思い出せないくらいになっています。

何においても「上達するためには、楽しむことが何よりの近道」と言われます。

自分だけでなく、社内のメンバー全員が同じようにリラックスして最大限の能力を発揮できるよう、これからも社内環境の整備を 続けていきたいと思います。

the line between work and play

I found that a sim card that can be used overseas can be purchased cheaply online, so I used it for the first time on my overseas business trip last month. I could use my iPhone in each country normally, so I was able to communicate with the company staff as usual.

As I wrote in my previous blog, after visiting vendors in each country, I stopped by nearby countries which I wanted to visited more than before. I spent several days there as my summer vacation, where I continued to communicate with the company staff as I did in the first half of my trip.

Meanwhile, I noticed something on LINE message from my younger sister who is one of the staff. The content was “Thank you always thinking about work even though you are on summer vacation”. However, I didn’t bother switching my mind, which was relaxed during my vacation, to work mode.

Even though I’m relaxing in a place which I’ve wanted to go to for years, I don’t feel any stress when I think about work. What I learned from this is that “my usual work is something I want to do as much as traveling to a place of my dreams.” In my mind at this time, there is no distinction between “work is hard and travelling is fun”. Both are what I want to do.

When I was young and worked for a general company, I often felt unreasonable. At that time, I had a hard time switching from holiday mode to work mode at the beginning of the week, but now I can’t even remember that feeling.

In anything, they say “the best way to improve is to have fun”.

So that not only myself, but all the company staff can relax in the same way and demonstrate their full potential, I’ll continue to improve the company environment.
