Background for determining the details of the gap between machi and handle(2)<\/h2>\n

Related to yesterday’s article, there was a time when we shipped knives with \u201cno machi gaps\u201d for a while.
This is just a backstory, but please bear with me.<\/p>\n

Even several years after Konosuke’s machi-gap style took root, my father suggested, \u201cIt would still be better to have no machi gap.<\/p>\n

I finally gave up after being told this repeatedly and asked the dealer whether he preferred a gap or no gap.
(In hindsight, as a father, I don’t think it was of any particular significance, but simply because it was ‘not familiar to me.)<\/p>\n

I asked Mark, the owner of Chef knives to go, and he took a survey of his customers.
As a result, the majority of the votes for ‘no gap is better’ were cast.<\/p>\n

Some customers said that it would lose its Konosuke character, but after that, all Konosuke knives for CKTG were delivered with no gaps.<\/p>\n

We continued to use this style of delivery for the next several years, but it caused a few problems within the our company.<\/p>\n

There were situations where we had to reinstall handle with a gap for CKTG or without a gap for other companies by mistake.<\/p>\n

Also the inconvenience of having \u201cno machi gap\u201d knives in stock but not being able to deliver them to other customers became noticeable.<\/p>\n

Then I suddenly looked at Wa-Gyuto printed on a T-shirt I received from CKTG, which I had been using when practicing in my hobby acrobatics class, and I noticed that the knife had a machi gap.<\/p>\n

I thought, \u201cThis is an opportunity!” I explained the situation to Mr. Mark, and he allowed me to return to the \u201cwith machi gap\u201d style, and here we are.<\/p>\n
