I would like to respond to a question submitted by a member today.
When I launched Konosuke in 2006, I referred to various knives from other companies and paid attention to the machi gaps.<\/p>\n

2006\u5e74\u306b\u5e78\u4e4b\u7950\u3092\u7acb\u3061\u4e0a\u3052\u305f\u3068\u304d\u3001\u4ed6\u793e\u3055\u3093\u306e\u8272\u3005\u306a\u5305\u4e01\u3092\u53c2\u8003\u306b\u3057\u3001\u30de\u30c1\u306e\u9699\u9593\u306b\u3082\u6ce8\u76ee\u3057\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002<\/p>\n

In long-established knife stores in Tokyo, it seemed to be the norm to leave a fairly wide gap.
However, my father told me, ‘Sakai knives rarely leave a machi gap.<\/p>\n

Personally, I decided to make \u201cthe style with a little gap\u201d the Konosuke standard, as neither of the two styles felt very comfortable.<\/p>\n

When online sales to the Japanese domestic market were the mainstream, we were able to accommodate customers’ requests for no gaps (photo #2).<\/p>\n

In the midst of all this, we still received several questions from customers at that time about the machi gaps, just as we did this time.<\/p>\n

I myself did not know the answer, so I think I asked Mr. Tanaka, Mr. Morihiro, and others like Mr. Kawakita and Mr. Shiraki.
In fact, I remember that everyone at the time did not have a clear answer as well.<\/p>\n

So, in the end, as Mr. Mark Gonzales pointed out, the main reason is simply because \u201cI thought this style was the coolest.

Although it is an afterthought, ‘without the machi gap, the distance between the knife’s jaw (ago) and the handle becomes narrower, making it difficult to insert the middle finger,’ and this may have the advantage of eliminating that problem.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, I feel that there are some disadvantages, such as the tendency for trash to accumulate and the tendency for fingers to get injured when hitting the corners of the gusset, but I have not found a solution to these problems.<\/p>\n
