By the way, recently I have been thinking about mass production and mass consumption. I wondered what was beyond \u201cjust making a lot of knives and selling a lot of knives.<\/p>\n

With the recent global kitchen knife boom and the weak yen, it seems as if sales of anything with the name \u201ckitchen knife\u201d attached to it, as long as it is \u201cmade in Japan,\u201d have been booming.<\/p>\n

Many new companies, both Japanese and foreign-affiliated, are also entering the market, opening knife stores all over Japan and selling knives to foreign tourists anyway.<\/p>\n

Sometimes I feel that the situation where many new stores are opened and many knives are made in order to increase immediate sales is ‘just a waste of resources.<\/p>\n

Of course, if people overseas are looking for really good knives and are selling them good ones that will last a lifetime, then of course that is good, and we would like to continue to make such products, but it seems to me that there are also many knives being sold that are not so good.<\/p>\n

I feel that the last mentioned craftsman’s approach of \u201cnot only selling Japanese knives, but also wanting people to taste Japanese culture together\u201d contains something that resolves this confused feeling.<\/p>\n
